Born in South California, Dr. Doan's family moved to Orange County, Connecticut when he was eight. He studied at Santa Ana for his primary, junior, and higher education. From Yale, he went to one of the best research institutions in the country, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He graduated with his medical degree in the upper third of his class. He then went to the University of Arizona in Tucson for his surgical training comprising of internship, residency, and chief residency in General Surgery. His final stage of training was completed at Dartmouth Medical Center in New Hampshire as the fellow in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In 2003, he went back to South California.
